[January 10th] [+C: Sword and Cornett] clouds on a sunny day, or tire tracks after a rain?
Title: clouds on a sunny day, or tire tracks after a rain?
Day/Theme: January 10th, 2011; sadder than a train in the rain
Series: +C: Sword and Cornett
Character/Pairing: Eco, Kiliko
Rating: G
Notes: Part of a modern AU, though you don't need to have read anything from it to get it.
It's pouring rain (hallelujah, it's raining, it's raining), too hard for the umbrella to properly reflect off; they splick and splack closer and closer, the wind tumbling them straight onto him and nearly, nearly spurning the efforts of the black umbrella. The tracks are quiet - the train hasn't arrived yet, and wouldn't for another ten minutes and it's miserable, truly miserable, when one gets down to the core of it. The platform's not crowded at all today - Saturday, he thinks, a rainy Saturday afternoon where everyone who's smart stays home and in their beds. Kiliko sighs, checks his watch, and watches the tracks in front of him.
He notices the bright, canary yellow umbrella bobbing towards him when he looks at his watch again, and represses a sigh when it's Eco bounding up. The smile's bright, if thin-lipped. It's all good will with a dollop of pity, and Kiliko turns his eyes from the man and back to the tracks.
"Nathanael! What're you doing out in such bad weather?"
Plink plink, answers the rain. Eco moves closer, enough so their umbrellas are touching to the core; Eco's is tilted up, and he's as closer as he can be.
"C'mon, answer me~ Aren't we friends?"
"Your definition of friends differs from mine, Francesco."
"So the statue can speak!"
Kiliko grits his teeth; Eco grins, and turns towards the tracks. The train's late today; he looks at his watch every few seconds, eager to leave unwanted company, and Eco takes notice of it.
"Hey."
A little hurt.
"Don't you want to talk? Spend time together? We used to be such good friends, Nathanael. What happened to us?"
"There wasn't an 'us' for anything to happen to. As for friendship, we grew apart."
"Yeah, but you want nothing to do with me."
That's because Eco is the heir to the Lagen family. That's because Eco is the only thing standing in his way from inheriting the house. That's because Eco is supposed to be dead, and he isn't, and the thought makes his fingers clench around the umbrella's handle. Two minutes late -- the train's two minutes late, and he doesn't bother answering the blond because he's in a rush. He steps onto the empty train as fast as he can, shutting his umbrella when he's inside and staring at Eco out the window. Eco smiles, dangerously leans over the tracks, and presses a kiss against the glass before the train roars away.
