Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Nash, Sasarai, Teodor
Rating: G
Author's comment: Pardon the weird style/format. As usual, I'm just messing around.

Teodor Leipzig used his secret sources. The news was his before the dawn. He rushed to complete his opus. He fired up the printing press. He would make news today, not just spell out opinions. He would be the first to tell the capital about the outcome of the war.

Something's come by messenger bird! Yes, yes, today we'll have the biggest story in the city! My connections have paid off and when the boys on the corner are yelling "Extra, extra, read all about it!" they'll be talking about me! ...I mean, us. Yes, that's right, us. You and me and the rest of the staff of the Valley Star. All five of us.

Nash Latjke ("Clovis") would not admit to being one of those sources. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. Okay, so his answer would depend on who was asking. ...And whether or not the bishop who employed him would be pleased or displeased by his dispersing the news ahead of an actual Counsel decision to do so.

It's not that I wanted to spoil the surprise per se... It's not that I wanted to see the sour looks on a couple of smug faces when we showed up in the capital with the news several days old... Okay, okay, okay, maybe it is. It really, truly is. Hey, I've got to enjoy myself somehow! ...Maybe this will cheer Sasarai up.

Sasarai looked the other way. When Luc had moved against him, who had come to his aid? Not the ones who wanted to carefully control the flow of information about the war into the country. The position he was in was fragile. He would still need to play their games. But the rules that applied to him did not apply quite so strictly to all of subordinates. Certainly not the ones who existed almost outside the class system, almost outside the law, almost outside the bounds of Harmonia entirely...

I let him tell what he wanted to tell. If it would make him happy... Well, I didn't see what it hurt. I didn't care. I would just look the other way. ...I would... I had a lot things to think about. I didn't have the time to be minding all my men as strictly as usual, right?
