[Jan. 5] [Original] We'll Fly Again Someday
Title: We'll Fly Again Someday
Day/Theme: Jan. 5, 2011 "Girl meets airship. Girl loses airship."
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Sakuya, Grey, Ayye
Rating: PG
They left the airship behind on the dull moors on a cloudy day, in a sea of mist. Sakuya stroked its sleek and pinkish prow, her fingers sticking to the cool surface with the dew. It felt like even the ship herself didn't want Sakuya to go.
"C'mon," Ayye gave a jerky wave, suggesting she hurry up and join them, "We don't have time to be fooling around here. Gotta hit the road, get out of sight."
"He's right, you know," Grey sighed. He hated to leave his vessel behind as much as Sakuya did. He worried, after all, that he would never see it again. He worried about a lot of things though. The airship should not have merited so much of his attention, all things considered, but... In a way it was a symbol of everything he had once held in his spoiled, porcelain hands. A symbol of everything he had now lost.
Sakuya hurried away through the wet grass, but her mind stayed with the beautiful silver craft. Would ever fly through the clouds like that again? Up in the sky, with Grey's subtle hand at the wheel, she had felt so free, above all the concerns that weighed her down as she skulked through the shadows of the earth, hoping for her innocence to be recognized.
She remembered how thrilled she had been when she first laid eyes upon the airship. "Grey, it's beautiful!" she had raised her hands slowly and folded them together, beaming at the sight of his steam-fueled toy.
"How kind of you, Miss Sakuya. It warms my heart to hear that." She could tell that he was fond of the ship as well. He had named it "Carnation." She assumed it was because its silver was laced with pink. Had he chosen to have it painted that way himself or was that the way it had been gifted upon him by his late father?
Even Ayye had been forced to admit that the craft was impressive, once Grey got it off the ground and into the air. He refused to believe Grey's smooth handling could account for their pleasant sojourn into the clouds.
Sakuya could imagine it now, as clear as day...the wind whipping her hair back, Ayye strutting along the railing, arms spread and cape flying out behind him... It had been the most happily exhilarating experience of her life. (It seemed like every other burst of adrenaline she had remembered had been in fear.)
"You will fly again someday," Grey said to her solemnly.
Sakuya wondered how it was that he could read her mind.
