[Jan. 2] [Grandia] Don't Let Me Go

Title: Don't Let Me Go
Day/Theme: Jan. 2, 2011 "We float like a mote of dust"
Series: Grandia
Character/Pairing: Justin/Feena
Rating: PG

In a dungeon like this, there were bound to be traps. Justin had insisted on leading the way and Feena had eventually given in and let him, despite his terrible track record for avoiding such hidden hazards. Sometimes, she practially thought he wanted to trip all the wires, fall down all the pits, and open all the secret chambers filled with monsters. There was no way he could continue to have such poor judgment after all the traveling he'd done during the past two years. She wasn't so inclined to believe he could have that bad of luck either.

...And speaking luck...it seems to Feena that it had been holding out a little too long... "Justin, are you sure you don't want me to take over? It does get tiring taking point for too long...dodging monster and attacks and all," Feena tried to rationalize the choice and not make it sound like she was just doubting or wanting to upstage him.

"No, it's okay, Feena. I'm doing fine!" Justin declared cheerfully. He took one unguarded step, looking back to smile at his beautiful girlfriend. The earth gave out beneath them.

"Kya!" Feena squeaked. It wasn't as if she were any stranger to falling down dark holes with no discernible bottoms, but that was one of those things that never failed to get to a person. It was the surprise as much as the sensation.

"Wings, Feena! Wings!" Justin directed her, pulling his wits together first. He flapped his arms in a mock flying gesture, hoping that perhaps that would get through to her faster than his words.

"Oh! Right!" Feena still found it easiest to tap into the powers that were her Icarian heritage if she closed her eyes. Only the most immediate of danger brought them roaring to the front otherwise. When she closed her eyes, she could see the light. Glowing and warm, it reminded her of her sister. She reached out to it and released her power. The light, as it extended out of her, was bright and vivid, forming into fuchsia wings. She slowed her descent and drifted up against the push of gravity.

Justin continued to fall fast, reaching up above his head. The only help he could hope for was for Feena to grab him. For a moment she was too relieved by her own manner of rescue to think about Justin. Then the thought struck her as hard as the fall had. "Justin!" she dove down after him, throwing herself in his path to catch him not loosely by the wrist or fingers, but to scoop him up in her arms. His weight made it harder to fly upward, but it was no problem for Feena to allow herself to drift gradually toward the ground now brought into sight by the illumination of her wings.

"Ha ha ha, geez, thanks, Feena," Justin shed his fear in a rush of nervous laughter, "That was kind of close."

"Too close," she agreed, pulling him closer. But the thing about the danger was...when she had the chance to save him like this, when they floated like dust motes in the sun, everything was so much brighter than before. Life was beautiful. Love was beautiful. Kind of like a fairy tale.
