Title: Bring Your Light Into the Dark, the Spider's Web

A man approached, ducking his head below the beams reinforcing the mine shaft. He was too short to bump against the support beams, but he leaned forward anyway, cautiously. Humans did that. Overestimate themselves.
He lit his way with a lantern, a dancing yellow glow that jumped this way and that across the packed soil and discarded mining equipment. Pride watched the light, enjoying the game of tag it played with his amorphous form. The presence of light defined him, but he would not reveal himself too early, too close to the surface, so he crept backward, backward, in the face of this illumination, receding like the tide.
At the same time, the man stepped forward, leaving behind a dappling trail of blood. He was definitely the one. Pride had been expecting him. There were orders to be passed on. Day by day, priorities shifted. The last necessities for carrying things out properly on the Promised Day took precedence over any auxiliary matters. Anyone could chase Scar and Dr. Marcoh. It took someone a bit more specialized to oversee such a massive spilling of blood.
The light dipped lower, closer. A pair of eyes, just as golden, darted, seeming to catch hold of the tips of his black, running fingers. The man was as perceptive as Envy said.
He lifted his lantern up to the ebony abyss and Pride advanced, around, above, and under to encircle him. A precious morsel, a child of the light. One day he would swallow him whole.
