"Through This Long and Windy Road" Kiel, Kiehl ~Ragnarok Online

He found himself suddenly awake in the middle of the night.

Lying and listening quietly for several moment lead to conclusion that it was due to heavy storm raging outside the window. Wild, uncontrollable, and really irritating. Grunting, he shove the blanket off and shuffle a bit until he found the sandals and headed to his workroom. It's better than to spend all night being terrorized by forces of nature.

He was none too surprised to see Kiehl already there, head looking up from tables full of scrolls, "Good evening, Father"

"I had always told you to go sleep during night hours, Kiehl. If people caught you working 24 hours a day, rumors might start flying"

"Being rumored as workaholic probably will be beneficial to the company, Father. But yes, I'll try to be careful not to overdo it", then taking off his gloves, his son inquired further, "Do you need something? I could readied the progress report now, if you like"

He waved his hand nonchalantly, "I'll read them in the morning", then glancing around the room, he ask "Where's Allysia?"

Kiehl raised an eyebrow, "Still in her room, I guess" Automatic rise up at six, automatic sleep at eleven "Do you need her to be waken up?"

"No. I'm just going to do the usual maintenance, I'll go there myself"

He was already turning the doorknob when his son speak again hesitantly, "Father?......There's still one week before the monthly check schedule" the underlying question of are you alright? are you still delirious from sleep? hovering thickly in the air.

Sometimes he wondered if he made Kiehl too smart for his own good.

"Just bring me the report tomorrow morning, Kiehl. And something to take note, since this season having high level of humidity, all maintenance cycle will be lessened by one week"

"Yes, father. Certainly."

He closed the door and turned direction back to living quarters. Allysia's is put on different floors naturally (though he probably don't need to bother, considering what rumor had been spreading around) and Kiel curses his old leg as they climbed the stairs sluggishly. The sound of heavy drizzle with occasional lightning accompanying his steps.

Well, guess one can't fight age. He mused a bit, pausing slightly in front of her room to collect his breath before entering.

On the other hand, something could.

Allysia is, like Kiehl's predicted, sleeping still, totally unperturbed by roaring rain outside. She will still unperturbed if there's a storm raging inside, or quake splitting the earth. The only thing that could intervene with her schedule is her jumper switch, or with direct order from Kiel Hyre's voice recognition command. The person himself is currently dragging a chair beside her bed, deciding it will too long to wake her up from standby mode only to shut her down completely later.

As Kiel extending his arm to reach the switch, he found himself drawn to her face instead.

Raging sound of water nearby, pale face with eyes closed......

.........and the ring stored inside his son's body now. He already proven what he wanted to achieve, had climbed to position even higher than that man during all these years. Yes, all these years.....

His hand meet the synthetic silkiness meant to be replication of long, flowing golden hair, of which not, of which not dampened by the river's cursed stream.

He stand up. It probably due to old age, but tiredness has become an increasing problem. Next he know, he'll have trembling and clumsy hand all over - soon unfit to do any maintenance on his own.

'Better to do detail things when I'm 100% awake', he put the chair back to its place neatly in front of dresser and walking back to the door.

Casting one last look while turning the doorknob, Kiel could see her, illuminated by strings of flashes by the window, the figure of her heaving chest, clearly breathing amidst the sound of downpour of torrential rain.

The door closed with a gentle click.
