Title: Goodbye.
Day/Theme: October 17th: "brush the summer by"
Series: BlazBlue
Character/Pairing: Jin, slight Jin-->Ragna?
Rating: PG

The fireflies come at the end of summer, just like the year before, and the year before that. Jin likes how they look, how they shine a bright and brilliant golden-green. The night isn’t nearly as scary when the fireflies stay, and Jin likes them even more for that, although he also privately hates them for reminding him of the end of summer. Soon enough, the golden days of summer will end, and he and Ragna will be at school once more.

Jin likes summer the best, so he clings to it as hard as he can. But it always goes by so quickly, and just as it seems that he’s free to enjoy a few months with his older brother, he blinks and then it’s time to go back to school, back to teachers and students and Ragna not being there to hold his hand. The end of summer is more than just an end to freedom, in some ways it is a goodbye. The going of the fireflies is one last goodbye as well, one last parting gift.

When the snake crawls into his head and whispers how to make summer not matter anymore, how to get rid of Saya, how to find the sword that she gave him three years ago, how to start a fire that will burn everything down along with his memories, and how to finally, finally make Ragna never look at anyone else, the fireflies are just coming out. It’s the end of summer, the end of his childhood, and after that Jin forgets the light of fireflies and the heat of summer, caught up in a life without Ragna and a winter that never ends.
