[Sept. 23] [Final Fantasy VII] It's a Woman's World

Title: It's a Woman's World
Day/Theme: Sept. 23, 2010 "I have daughters and I have sons"
Series: Final Fantasy VII
Character/Pairing: Cid & Vincent
Rating: PG

"These days the only men in my life are my crew," Cid muttered, chewing on the stem of a straw he'd picked out of the overgrown lawn surrounding the Highwind's landing strip. Vincent nodded and leaned back against the rickety wooden fence.

"Not gonna say anything, huh?" Irritated, he spat out the the plant fiber. There was no way something like this was going to take the place of his beloved cigarettes. Sure, he'd admit to having an oral fixation, but that wasn't the half of it. "Chew on a piece of grass," Yuffie'd said. Feh, what a waste of time. "I suppose you wouldn't care much either way though."

"I see a lot of people," Vincent replied quietly. The sun was glinting off the Highwind right into his eyes, so he dropped his face slightly to hide behind the safety of his long bangs.

"Surrounded by men, right? And you couldn't care a lick about it?" Cid tried to guess at his old friend's feelings. He imagined Vincent didn't think much about that anyway.

"No, not really. There's Reeve and his people, but, honestly, I keep working with women- Reeve's people or otherwise. I see Yuffie a lot. Of course," he reflected, "It's different for me. I don't have to live with any of these people. You have a wife. And three daughters."

If Cid wasn't so absolutely sure that Vincent had barely a shred of humor in his entire body, he would've sworn he was teasing him, what with those shrewd and heavy pauses he'd injected into his answer. "Well, the ship's a she too, so that's another one."

"Did you want sons?"

"Want sons? Hell, of course I would've liked a son or two, who do you think you're talkin' to, Vincent? But my girls are tough enough to hold their own with the best of the boys, and smarter too, to boot. It's not like not having sons has made me into some wussy yellow belly. I just know a bit more about ladies' undergarments and how to braid hair than I ever expected to."

"Someday they might get married. Then you'll have sons of a sort," Vincent shrugged.

"I don't know. They might." Cid pulled out a cigarette and stuck it in his mouth before lighting it. "It's not the same though, you know?"

"Then I suppose you're going to have to hold out for grandchildren."

"Okay, now I know you're just saying this to trip me up!" Cid rolled his eyes even as he laughed, walking away back toward the house where all the women waited for him.
