[Sept 20] [One Piece] Naming A Sword
Title: Naming A Sword
Series: One Piece
Day/Theme: Sept 20 - "almost gold, almost amber, almost light"
Pairings/Characters: LuffyxNami, FrankyxRobin, ZoroxTashigi
Rating: G
A/N: Set in an alternate universe putting the characters in high school, and Nami, Robin, and Tashigi are friends having a discussion. Quick little clip from a story idea I've been toying with. (since so many people love doing high school fics)
Nami smiled at her two friends as they sat around the oak tree in the school courtyard. Lunch was being served, though she had already eaten and was just now munching on her daily orange, something she never failed to carry for her school lunch. Robin had also already eaten and was now simply sipping on a green tea bottle bought from the school soda machine. Tashigi, on the other hand, was in the process of eating her daily bowl of ramen - heated up in the art teacher's classroom before the lunch bell.
"So, Robin, did you see what Luffy bought for me?"
Robin smiled lightly back at her, taking a sip of the green tea before placing her hand on the edge of her uniform skirt, letting the sunlight gleam off the amber jewel resting in the ring at her finger - a ring given to her by Franky, one of the seniors on the football team. "I didn't know Luffy cared to buy things."
Nami clenched her teeth and swallowed the urge to lash out at the insult aimed at her boyfriend. Instead, she forced a toothy smile and took a breath before speaking calmly. "Well, apparently he does care because over the summer he bought this gold necklace for me," she said, hand reaching up to touch the gold chain around her throat. "It even has a locket with a picture of us in it."
Robin's eyebrows went up, but she didn't comment. Tashigi, on the other hand, put a hand to her glasses and pushed them up her nose as she leaned in to stare. "Oh, wow! That's really nice, Nami! Do you think he knows you like gold?"
Nami smiled sweetly at the nerdy friend that had been forced into her little close circle - because of the boy she had started dating. If Luffy hadn't been friends with the worst punk in the school, Roronoa Zoro, then Tashigi would have never had to invade Nami's perfect little group. Whatever caused the relationship between the no-good always-causing-trouble wannabe-dropout and the goody-two-shoes anime-loving glasses-wearing nerd?
"Zoro bought me a katana at that anime convention we went to this summer!" Tashigi stated proudly, sitting back, the bowl of half eaten ramen now on the grass beside her. "I think I'm going to name it Shigure."
Nami blinked and frowned, finding herself forced to have a conversation with the anime nerd yet again. "Why Shigure?" She mumbled.
"Well, Shigure means Autumn Rain and me and Zoro had our first kiss in Autumn in the rain! I thought it would be the perfect name!" Tashigi grinned.
Nami sighed. That's so lame...
"Kind of romantic," Robin muttered, the amber ring glittering in the sunlight as her hand moved to her chin, propping up that smile.
Nami scoffed. "Only you two would think naming a sword was a romantic idea."
