[Sept. 19] [Shadow Hearts: Covenant] Hanami

Title: Hanami
Day/Theme: Sept. 19, 2010 "all this foolishness about moons and blossoms"
Series: Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Character/Pairing: Anastasia/Kurando, Lucia, Yuri
Rating: PG

"Ooh," Anastasia fussed with the tiny rabbit-shaped netsuke hanging from her pink obi, "I hope Kurando will get back soon... I hope that he'll like this..." When she had first heard about the traditions related to viewing the new cherry blossoms her heart had filled with enthusiasm. "This will be the perfect opportunity for us to do something romantic together!" she had gushed to Lucia, "I'll partake in Japanese culture, which should help me learn more about his family and what his life has been like growing up here, and we'll also get a chance to be alone together into the night!"

"Sounds nice," Lucia sighed. "I wish I could think up romantic plots as well as you Anastasia... I guess there'll never be a way for me to catch Lawrence's eye like that..."

"Lucia, you're an adult! You shouldn't need so many traps and tricks to neat a man! Just swing your sexy body his way and invite him back to your place for some home cooking," Anastasia had advised her friend.

Yuri, overhearing the whole thing, had made some dumb crack about not being sure Lawrence was interested in "the sort of home cooking Lucia has in mind" and spoiled the mood a bit. Then he had told the princess she was too sassy for her own good and gone off to play with Blanca, which, compared to what he'd been doing before, seemed practically useful.

Now, Anastasia wished she still retained a fragment of that bravado. She wanted to be able to take her own general advice regarding men ("They're slower than us, so they need to be lead."), but now all the could manage to do, standing on the veranda and watching the slender branches decked with cherry blossoms waver in the wind, was force a smile to stay plastered on her face as she waited. When Kurando arrived, she knew things would be better. He was so cute and so charming, but shyness in front of him was never one of her problems. Oh, if only he would just come and slide open that shoji panel.

"Anastasia?" Kurando really didn't know what to make of the scene that met him on the back porch of his home. His mother had told him that the princess was waiting and that she had some things set up, intending on spending time with him that evening, but those mild words hadn't prepared him for this. The tsar's daughter was decked out in a pink and white kimono that had once belonged to his mother. Her hair was not braided, as per its usual style, but was styled into an elaborate coif on top of her head, held in place with carved hairpins and a gold, wisteria-like clip.

"Kurando!" she gasped happily. The anxious mood of waiting broke and she felt at ease again. "Sit down with me and have some mochi!"

Anastasia was not the only part of the scene perfectly arranged and ready. There were cups (for tea, he assumed, not sake) and a tray of sakura mochi and other small sweets. An oil lamp sat just beside the door, waiting to be lit. Clearly, she did not intend for their time together to be up once the sun disappeared behind the hills. The viewing of the cherry blossoms would only be followed by a romantic viewing of the moon.

"I..." He faltered for a moment, but Anastasia took his hand. "I would be honored," Kurando smiled as they settled down together to enjoy this private moment. (They would simply have to ignore the sounds coming from the house of Yuri and Gepetto arguing in the background.)
