[Sept 16] [One Piece] One Day

Title: One Day
Series: One Piece
Day/Theme: Sept 16 - "you are due to be transformed"
Character: Chopper
Rating: G

A/N: Chopper before he is Chopper (ie: before he meets the crew or the doctor who gives him his name)

He was left alone to die. Left to be forever alone. No one cared to help him. No one cared about the young blue-nosed reindeer pushed out of the herd.

Because he was different.

Sifting through the snow alone, he bent down and hid his nose in the fluffy white flakes. He walked. Onward and alone.

Always alone.

Then his hoof hit a fruit and his empty stomach ate it without thought. It felt strange when it hit his system, and he began to wonder. An itch crossed his mind. A strange feeling hit his tingling nerves.

The sound of laughing children grabbed his attention. They were playing among the trees, whose branches were heavy with ice and snow.

'Humans!' his mind screamed and he began to run.

But a girl started crying, and he turned to see her trapped underneath a fallen log. The boys were trying to lift it but failing and her cries were only getting louder. His concern made him change.

He stretched out, willing himself to be able to help. And his body shifted, grew in size. He was able to stand up straight on two legs, like a human, and his upper body was huge and muscular. He should be able to lift the tree branch without problem.

He moved. The boys ran at first and hid. The girl started screaming. The boys started throwing snow. He ignored them. He wanted to help. He really did. And the snowballs didn't hurt all that much anyway.

Reaching down, he grabbed the branch and moved it away, throwing it to the side. The girl stared at him, mouth gaped wide open. The boys stopped throwing things. He put a hand behind his head, smiled sheepishly, and started to back away.

He had done what he wanted. Now it was time to return to being alone. Time to figure out these new transformation powers. What else could he do? What else could he be?

The girl hugging him broke him away from thoughts. "Thank you, Mister. What's your name?"

He shook his head, unable to understand the feeling in his face, the butterflies in his stomach. He could understand her speech, the human tongue. So that was one ability. One thing he could do.

But he didn't have a name. He had been alone so long. And he didn't know how to respond to her, either. But he would one day. He would learn and he would speak back to the humans. He would learn their ways, learn how else to help.

And one day, he would also have a name.
