[Sept. 14] [Final Fantasy XII] The Tongue of Summoning
Title: The Tongue of Summoning
Day/Theme: Sept. 14, 2010 "the twilight language"
Series: Final Fantasy XII
Character/Pairing: Ashe, Penelo, Vaan
Rating: PG
The language one used when speaking with espers was not the usual Galtean of everyday life. How Ashe was able to speak this language then without any instruction or prior knowledge was beyond her ken. She simply made the contract and she knew.
Belias flew through rings of fire at her whispered command. From her sun-kissed lips sprang words she did not understand. Twas fascinating how one could summon without conscious knowledge of the workings involved in the process.
Was it similar for the others, she wondered? She broke her common silence to inquire, mildly, modestly, of ones unlikely to pry deeply into the inner workings of her thinking. She found Penelo and Vaan both shared in the drought of mystery from which she drank.
"It's strange, I know!" Penelo exclaimed, glad to find the princess as mystified as she. "I was scared at first, to hear the words come out of me. I was afraid I was being taken over."
"When you did it, it scared me too," Vaan agreed.
"I see. And have you witnessed any of the others give signs that they might better know the truth and purpose of this strange phenomenon?" Charmed as she was by the laughter and embarrassment of the urchins, what she truly sought was not friendly communion but the comfort of answers received without need for humbling herself.
Penelo tapped her finger against her chin, thinking seriously. "I get the feeling that Fran knows. Well, not necessary everything- speaking the language or any of that. But she knows something. She might know the why of the matter."
"Ah, my thanks." She knew to pursue this topic next. With luck she could receive the facts that she desired without laying bare her worried weakness. But there was still one last thing... "Pray do not speak of this to Balthier or Basch," she added.
"Ha ha," Vaan snickered, "What's that? Embarrassed?"
"Don't tease her like that, Vaan!" Penelo scolded.
