[Sept. 13] [Original] Feet Have No Fear
Title: Feet Have No Fear
Day/Theme: Sept. 13, 2010 "courage is morally neutral"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Sakuya Altagracia, Kiichiro Grey, Ayye Derringer
Rating: PG
"Sakuya. Look." Kiichiro's voice was cold and neutral, straining out like ice in a grater between his clenched teeth as he tapped his companion on the shoulder.
His tone was warning enough. Sakuya very slowly turned her head in the direction of Kiichiro's pointing finger. Whatever she was about to see, she had a feeling she would not enjoy laying eyes on it. But since Kiichiro was troubling her with it at all, it was something she would have to look at anyway. Unlike Ayye, he preferred to shield her from the many unpleasant things the world sent her way- his own foibles and follies included. If he brought something bad to her attention, it was just one of those things in life that couldn't be avoided (at least without major consequences).
Up above them, high, high above them, dizzyingly high in Sakuya's opinion, so that she began to feel herself reeling just looking at him, Ayye was walking along the tightrope that had been strung from the castle wall to the wobbling prison tower. "Ay-Ayye," she gasped, leaning weakly back into Kiichiro's embrace. Just being around that man was taking years off her life.
"Grey, why do you think he's doing that?" Sakuya asked nervously. She tipped her head back to look into Grey's bright eyes as he took advantage of the situation to tuck his arm a little more securely around the young lady.
"I can't say I know myself. I'd assume that he's going up and across to the prison tower to rescue, or at least to see, the sage of poisons, but I thought he hated the fellow..." Grey had concluded long ago that Derringer was at least slightly crazy, but even a crazy man seemed unlikely to throw himself into such reckless behavior for the sake of someone he didn't like. There had to be some sort of method to his madness.
"How do you think he knows how to do that? ...Do he have a trick?" Sakuya's stomach was tying itself into knots. She could barely stand to look, but there was also no way she could turn away. Ayye wouldn't fall...would he?
"I...do not know, Miss Sakuya. When he comes back down, I think you'll have to ask him yourself."
"When he comes back down," she repeated. She could not feel better without adding her own hopes to the matter. "In one piece."
