It had been ten years. Ten years since Syuhei had seen a sixteen-year-old Kai play at the seedy P-Club. Ten years since they'd seen each other at all really, but the presence of the young man had stayed with him. Kai had been his inspiration for the last couple of years. Syuhei had found his style of playing. A melancholic style full of anguish. Suiting for someone who had been the rival of Ichinose Kai. How could he not feel sad to have fallen to his rival? He sighed to himself, looking down at the address he had jotted down, a flush rising to his skin. What was he doing? Going to visit Kai after all of these years... it was something he wasn't sure he was ready to deal with again. Both of them were adults now. Both of them were pianists. And to top it all off, they both were of two completely different levels. Syuhei was a well known name in and around Japan, but Ichinose Kai... Ah, that name resonated around the world.

He licked his lips as he finally got out of the car, glancing up at the small apartment building. Kai would live in a place like this... He pursed his lips and walked up the iron stairs and toward the room number. Trembling, he knocked. Confused when a dark haired man opened the door. The man frowned. “May I help you?”

Syuhei flushed. “Does an Ichinose Kai live here?”

“No, but he does come often. Do I know you?”

“I'm Amamiya Syuhei, a good friend of-”

“Amamiya. Ah, yes. It's been a long time.”

The smile, the wavy hair now tinted with some gray, and just his eyes. No doubt this was Ajino. Syuhei wasn't sure how to talk to the man. He was a well known pianist in Japan now. He moved lots of people with his music now, but Ajino... Ajino harbored the star that is Kai. Ajino smiled again. “He doesn't live here at the moment. You can find him at his old home.”

Syuhei blinked. Which home? For some reason, he had an idea... He turned and walked as fast as he could to his car and made his way toward the Party Club, shocked he even remembered where it was. But somehow, he just knew... Kai had always drawn him close. Like moths to a flame. Kai was an enormous blaze and he was this measly moth that only wanted to watch the beauty of the fire and feel it's warmth.

He opened the door, glancing around. The smells of cooked ramen floated through the air, making it obvious that Kai was indeed here. He spotted his old friend quickly. He suddenly felt nervous. Seeing Kai's face in the papers was one thing, seeing him in person was a completely different thing. He nervously cleared his throat, watching Kai pause in his eating, turning toward him.

Syuhei smiled. “Hello Kai.”

Kai didn't say anything at first, their eyes caught in this lock... Syuhei had to break it, he looked away, his smile growing wobbily. “You're the only world renowed pianist that would sit in an abandoned building and eat cup ramen, Kai.”

What Syuhei wasn't expecting, was the feel of Kai's arms around him. He looked down at his friend through his lens, unsure of what to do about this. Kai's arms felt warm, loving, and very safe. He sighed, wrapping his own arms around Kai. He had always thought Kai was so big... but now, in his arms, Kai seemed so small... his frame lithe and feminine. It made him flush slightly, but he fought it.

Kai growled, slapping a fist against Syuhei's chest. “First five years, now ten... how many times are you going to disappear for so long?”

“... I'm sorry.”

Kai pulled away slightly, those chestnut eyes narrowing. “You should be! You're supposed to be my friend! And you just vanish and don't come back until 10 years later! Do you know how I felt?”

Syuhei flushed, his arms twitching around Kai's form. Kai's angry look faded as they looked at each other. There was some odd bond between them... and it was pulling at them and pushing at them at the same time. Syuhei felt it, this spring in his lower body tightening. Kai's brown eyes were wide and they were moving, moving toward him...

His eyes widened as their lips met. Kai was kissing him... another man was kissing him. But it was Kai, and it was so right. He shuddered as his eyes closed and he began kissing the other man as well. So many things had changed in ten years, but one thing that hadn't changed was their bond. No, that wasn't it. With the feel of these soft lips and curious tongue, their bond had changed, it had grown, despite the distance and as Syuhei felt those hands brush the back of his head and their groins touch, he knew that their bond had always been strong and they'd always continue to grow and change, together.
