[Aug. 26] [Suikoden IV] Men and the Sea

Title: Men and the Sea
Day/Theme: Aug. 26, 2010 "the call of sea, stars, and sky"
Series: Suikoden IV
Character/Pairing: Helmut/Troy
Rating: PG

For some people, the sea presents an irresistible lure, but for those who love them without feeling that same compulsion, difficulties often arise. Even for those couples or friends or other related people, the sea can intrude between them and form a barrier.

It was not without reason they called Troy, "the Child of the Sea God." He had a masterful touch when it came to handling boats and reading the tides. What Helmut had been forced to learn through hours of study, reading books, watching his father, or testing out firsthand, Troy had always known, intuitively. There had been a time when Helmut was young that he had worried that his father loved Troy more than him. He learned soon enough that wasn't true. It was just...Troy was a genius. And Helmut was average.

Colton loved Helmut. He was awed by Troy. Helmut had the feeling that were he a woman, his father would've made every effort to marry him off to Troy to make him part of the family. As it was, Colton had done practically all that he could to make Troy feel at home with them over the years. His efforts in bringing together the two young men had been more than successful. Helmut wasn't a girl, but he had come to love Troy anyway. He loved him more than the sea. When Troy was away and he was left behind in El Eal, he paced the ramparts like an anxious bride. ...At least that was how the others told him he looked. It was a humiliating thought, but he just couldn't help how he felt. When he looked out at the stars these nights, he thought of Troy. He counted the days until his beloved would return.

Where he had once found himself caught up with worries about the division of affections between himself and Troy and his father, now Helmut found new reason to consider his place in the heart of the one he loved most. He saw the way that Troy looked at the roiling ocean and sighed when he breathed in the breezy salt air. He truly was second-best this time. Of this Helmut was certain. The Child of the Sea God was possessed. There was nothing he could do but give himself, his heart and soul, back to the sea.
