[Aug 26] [HTTYD] Don't Wait
Title: Don't Wait
Day/Theme: 26 - Call of the seas, stars, and sky
Series: How To Train Your Dragon
Character/Pairing: Hiccup/Astrid
Rating: G
"Wait."
Hiccup stopped, but he didn't turn. "I can't stay."
"I know, but I want to give you this."
This time he did turn, and there Astrid stood holding out her hand. Her headband dangled from it and though the back length of her hair was still held in a braid, the front draped softly around her face. Her eyes were wide and bright.
Hiccup hesitated. This was harder than he thought it would be. All his life he wanted nothing more than to be one of them, a Viking like his father and his father's father before him. Now he was accepted by his tribe, loved by the girl of his dreams, and respected by his dad, and all he wanted to do was to go, fly off into the sky and explore everything out there. He longed to navigate all seven seas and chart the stars.
Stepping forward, he took her offering, their fingers lingering together. She whispered his name and clutched his hand. He pulled her forward into a hug and kissed her ear. "You could always come with me," he whispered. "I'd love the company."
"Toothless will be more than enough company," she replied, voice muffled by his tunic. He could feel the dampness of her tears on his shoulder. "But I'll be waiting. Hopefully that will encourage you to return quickly."
Hiccup sighed and gave her one final squeeze before gently pushing her away. "Don't wait too long," he said quietly, pulling his eyes from the broken look on her face. "Do what you have to do."
Slipping her headband into his vest pocket, he pulled himself into Toothless' saddle, and without looking back they flew off to discover their destiny.
