"I know," River said. "That's fine. I don't do domestic."

"… aaand the guards are coming. Run!"

She took off her heels with speed born from constant practice and went after him, catching up in just a moment.

"You should come prepared for these things, you know," he panted. "Those aren't running shoes."

"No, they're gathering-intelligence-at-a-formal-party shoes."

"Oooh. Good one."

"So, what planet are we saving today?"

"Not a planet. A species," he explained. "Although I suppose if we take into account the ecological balance, we are saving the planet in the long term…"

"… Doctor. Focus."

"Purple-winged Hexahorns. There's not much left of their natural habitat."

"So you want to create a wildlife sanctuary?" she asked. "That sounds too easy. What's the catch?"

"Well, you see," he told her, with his most innocent look, "it's also sort of in the middle of a warzone."

"You got my message."

"Right there in Kew Gardens, yes. Hard to miss. That poor caretaker was quite confused," he said. "Why are we in Rome, anyway?"

River smiled at him.

"Happy Valentine's Day."

"It's a strange life, though, isn't it?" the Doctor mused. "I mean, for a human. Always coming and going, no time to settle down…"

"It's my life," she said.

"And you like it?"

"I love it."

"Well, that's all right, then!" He looked at her and grinned. "Where next?"
