[August 10] [original: bird at sea] the sea, the sea, the endless sea

Title: the sea, the sea, the endless sea
Day/Theme: August 10 / no time for spreadin' roots
Series: original / Bird at Sea
Character/Pairing: Bird
Rating: K

It’s the first thing she loved about the sea: It’s timeless.

There’s something so ageless about the sea, she thinks, how it ebbs and flows, storms and crashes, rocks and lulls and never ends. As far as the eye can see is glassy green and foamy peaks, time and distance disappearing in rolling dark waves.

Out on the sea, she never ages. Days merge together into an endless lifetime, and she feels as young as the day she first stepped aboard the ship. It makes her feel light, and free, and very small.

But at the same time, she can feel the agedness of the sea wearing her down, like the constant crash of waves against the land. Every day she feels a little more weary, a little more aged, a little more small. A little less the girl she once used to be.

She feels, inexplicably, in her soul, like the sea. It ever changes her, ever moves her, but in the vast expanse of endless horizon, she feels like she has yet begun to grow.

For all the timelessness of the sea, she has yet to find the time to grow, and she finds that she likes it that way.
