[Aug 2] [Doctor Who] The Other Half
Title: The Other Half
Day/Theme: August 2 - over the world and under the world
Series: Doctor Who
Characters: Nasreen, Tony
Rating: G
Words: 425
Notes: SPOILERS for The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood
A thousand years passed, and she didn't even notice. Nasreen simply woke up one day, the feeling just as natural as if she had gone to sleep the night before. The only proof of how long it had been was Tony right there, grinning at her, good as new. As if he had never been poisoned at all.
... a thousand years. It should have been unbelievable. But she had seen so many unbelievable things in the past few days (the past few days a millenium ago) that it wasn't that hard, all things considered, to take it in stride.
She wondered about the world up there, how different it must be. Nasreen knew that she would have to wait to see that; the Silurians were just waking up, and if they kept their promise, they wouldn't simply rush to the surface. Things would have to be subtler than last time, even if humans were supposed to be prepared by now.
But she wasn't in a hurry. Seeing the future of her own side of the world was a fascinating idea, yes. It just wasn't quite as fascinating as exploring this completely new world down here. She had always aimed to go far, and yet this was a development she could have never imagined. It was something out of a Jules Verne story. Even better.
They didn't waste any time. As soon as Eldane explained who they were and why they had stayed around, they joined the Silurian scientists in their work. There were so many things to see and to learn that Nasreen didn't really mind starting out as a mere assistant all over again. (She still couldn't help bossing people around sometimes, anyway. Force of habit.) It was amazing how much these people knew - and how much they didn't.
The same planet, and each side of it only had half the knowledge about it. Just to think of the way science would change once they met - for both civilizations - made her head spin. She couldn't wait until they could get more humans to work with them. She was quite good at her job, if she could say so herself, but she was also very specialized. There were so many fields out there, so many people who could teach and learn and, quite literally, change the world.
It was impossible not to think big.
But for now, while they waited, they had tunnels and caves to explore. They had a whole new world to discover. What more could she ask for?
