Demyx should have known (did know) that it was going to be like this. He'd never been a match for Roxas. Why would things be any different just because this time it isn't just a training match? This time, they're playing for keeps. And now, Demyx is losing. He can't stall anymore, he can't remake his water clones as fast as Roxas destroys them. And then suddenly his sitars falls and dissolves and Demyx has already lost.

"Wait," he cries out suddenly panicked. (Is it real panic or fake? Does that even matter?) "Wait, please," he pleads to his foes "I don't want to die."

Roxas scoffs. (Different hair, different face but it's still Roxas' expression.) He looks down his keyblade at the weak injured Noboby. "You don't even exist," his voice is scornful.

"That's just mean!" Demyx protests. "I'm right here! I'm talking to you right now! How can I do that if I don't exist?" He pouts. "That was uncalled for, just because you found your heart, Roxas!" He mutters.

"Remember what Yen Sid said," speaks up one of Roxas' odd companions. "Don't be fooled by him; it's just an act he doesn't have emotions."

This revitalizes Roxas' distain. "Quit pretending," he demands, "you're not fooling me."

"I'm not pretending," Demyx responds stubbornly.

"You can't fool us," says the duck

"I'm not," he cries.

"You can't fool us," they say.

"I'm not," he pleads again. But their faces are stony as they chant back like it's a playground taunt. He really can't fool them and suddenly the mask breaks and it doesn't matter if he can't fool them because now he can't even fool himself anymore.

And in the at instant when the masks breaks- he loses. Loses for good because here comes the keyblade: and now he's leaking the darkness that is all he ever was. It's over and he can't quite believe it. Can't believe that after all that it ends like this. His mask has shattered and now he doesn't even know if any of it was real. He has no time left to figure out: if it was all pretend, then did any of it mean anything? His unlife flashes by and he can see it all: himself training with Xigbar, and Thursday poker nights, spending time in the library just to watch Zexion's eye twitch with annoyance, and (oh the irony) that time he saved Roxas' life on a mission. What was the point? Why did it end like this? Because now it's gone and ended and he will never again have a heart, never again feel or even pretend to feel. He grabs his head in disbelief and yells out, "NO WAY!!" sinking to his knees as he fades before the cold eyes of a former comrade.
