Whereas the other Nobodies craved hearts, Roxas craved answers. He longed for his missing memories. His own identity was what he sought. More than anything he wanted to know the truth of who he was and why the keyblade had chosen him. So naturally, it was almost unbearable when he realized that that the elders of Organization knew the truth, had his answers, but refused to tell him. Asking Superior had only gotten him punished for insolence. He had hoped that he could get his answers from Axel. But soon he was forced to give up on asking his friend. Axel was loyal to the Organization. He wouldn't tell either.

Eventually Roxas found a clue. The others hadn't intended to reveal their naming system. But in their carelessness they let some of their original names slip. It didn't take a genius to figure out that Axel was Lea plus an a X. From there he could unscramble Ienzo from Zexion, Braig from Xigbar and Even from Vexen, to know that he was on the right track.

There were only four letters if you removed the X from Roxas and only twenty four possible combinations of those four letters. Roxas figured out every one:

Roas, Rosa, Raso, Raos, Rsoa, Rsao
Oras, Orsa, Osra, Osar, Oasr, Oars
Aros, Arso, Asro, Asor, Aosr, Aors
Sroa, Srao, Sora, Soar, Saro, Saor

He said them aloud to himself hoping that one would sound right, one would trigger something in him. He had to guess at the pronunciation of some, but the worlds' languages were varied and he didn't want to skip the right one. He kept the list in the pocket of his coat at all times and anytime he was feeling frustrated at the Organization or at his lack of knowledge about himself he would repeat the names over and over again like a chant. It only took two days for him to memorize the list.

The answer was in there somewhere. Hidden in that scramble of four letters-the key to his very existence. He was ridiculously close. It was right there in front of him. It was just mixed in with twenty-three false leads. It would take time to uncover the truth, but at least he had a place to start. Somewhere between Roas and Soar lay the truth and it was high time he left and went after it.
