Character/Pairing: Colt. Elric.
Rating: PG-13.

"You did this, Elric. I kept telling you it was a bad idea."

Elric couldn't say anything, his eyes glued to the various wounds that littered Colt's skin.

"I warned you," Colt's voice had taken on a distinct pleading tone.

He finally seemed to regain his voice, "I never should of let you go," Elric swallowed thickly, "Or even come up with that plan."

Colt shook his head, eyes tearing up. "But you did, and now I'm dead."

Before Elric could respond to that, a jagged line seeping blood appeared on Colt's neck and slowly became deeper, exposing the glistening muscle beneath before Colt's head detached itself completely, rolling on the floor only to stop when it came into contact with Elric's boots. With a shriek that possessed the potential to awaken the dead, Elric sat bolt upright, sweating and gasping, eyes wide in terror, several strands of his tri-colored hair escaping from the ponytail to stick to his damp face. Subconsciously, one had had come up to grasp at his chest, and he bent forward, trying to get his breath back.

He hadn't had that nightmare in years, thought of his former slave often enough, if only to wonder if he had gotten away successfully. If he hadn't, Elric had never heard anything in the eight years since the escape. With a deep breath and heavy exhale, Elric leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees as his hands came up to card through his hair. He never should have let Colt go, after all it had only been talk, nothing had been confirmed. After several deep breaths, Elric threw the covers back and left the bed to stand in front of the window, consciously regulating his breathing as his pounding heart finally slowed.
