You stay home when Lisa and Ben go to the supermarket. You ruffle Ben’s hair and wave them goodbye and distract yourself with a beer. You don’t glance at the newspaper (crime, death, the hunt, the road) but you do pause in the living room. You can just see the quiet television from the corner of your eye.
You tell yourself you’re not waiting for the day it flips on and shows you only static.
You’re not.
You’re not.
But you pause just in case.
