[May 30th] [Rurouni Kenshin] Paper Flowers
Title: Paper Flowers
Day/Theme: May 30th / I am remembering you.
Series: Rurouni Kenshin
Character: Kenshin
Rating: G
Summary: 1870. It's Obon in all of Japan and everyone celebrates, wherever they may be.
Disclaimer: No, no it's not mine. I do want a Kenshin, though.
Warning: None.
Paper Flowers
It took several tries before Kenshin managed to fold the paper correctly. The idea had struck him a few days ago when he had walked through a village and seen the preparations. It wouldn't assuage his guilt, but there was something comforting in the ritual.
Tonight was the last night of Obon. Tonight was for wishing the dead a peaceful rest.
Now kneeling on the riverbank, Kenshin gently kissed the paper boat before placing a lit candle in it, and watched as the current took it away.
Tomoe never really left him. Maybe she, too, would see the flickering light.
A.n: Obon is a tradition to honor the spirits of the dead. Paper lanterns are lit and floated down rivers on the last night of the festival, which symbolizes the return of the spirits to their world.
