[May 28] [Original] Oracle

Title: Oracle
Day/Theme: May 28, 2010 "I dream in my dream all the dreams of other dreamers"
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Simmo, Page, the Oracle
Rating: G

Simmo took Page along with him to visit the Oracle of the Mountains. His last visit to her. He wasn't like the oracle. He didn't walk in dreams and there was plenty in the world he didn't know, but the approach of his own death was not one of those things he was unaware of or able to ignore. He walked now with the knowledge of death at his side. It sharpened an already acute focus. Time was finite- for Simmo, who he felt it pressing down; for Page, too young to consider it; for the oracle, not a centuries-old sage, whatever the legends might say.

The oracle's home was quiet. Simmo found this somewhat odd, since the oracle's advice appeared to be in constant demand based on his discussions with others, from farmers to sorcerers, and what he had seen on his own previous visits to her haunt. "Oooh, it's spooky!" Page laughed as they entered the caves. She twirled around, looking up at the dripping spikes of limestone hanging from the ceiling. In the mix of icy water and unknown minerals, a rainbow of opalescent colors swirled into shadow. "But it's pretty too," she amended her statement.

Simmo followed quietly. He didn't get a bad feeling from the silence, but he felt it was best to be careful.

The voice of the oracle echoed out at them, strange and soft. "Simmo the Nightingale. Page Tudor." She knew exactly how to greet them, though she could not yet see their approach.

"H-how does she know me?!" Page worried, rushing back to Simmo's side and clinging to his arm.

"She knows everyone, Page. She sees into our dreams."
