Walter lay in Seras’s arms and looked up at the ceiling.

“I called Sir Integral by the wrong name today,” he murmured.

“What do you mean?” Seras asked.

“I called her Isabelle. That was my mother’s name.”

Seras stroked his hair gently. “I’m sure that’s the sort of thing that could happen to anyone,” she said.

“I’ve known her since she was born and I’ve certainly never called her by the wrong name before. My memory is getting worse and it’s time I stopped pretending it isn’t,” said Walter.

She laid her head on his shoulder. “Perhaps you ought to go to a doctor.”

Walter sighed. “I could. But they’d either tell me it’s old age, which they can do nothing about, or it’s something much worse, which they can do nothing about.”

Seras sighed. “I’m sorry. I just… I never even think of you as old, really.”

He shook his head. “But I am old. You already knew we wouldn’t have much time together.”

“Don’t let’s talk about that now,” she said.

“Perhaps I should be grateful. There are some things in my life I'd be very pleased to forget.” he said, putting an arm around her waist. “It’s just that the thing that bothers me most right now...” His voice trailed off and didn’t continue.

“What is it?” Seras asked.

“I don’t want to forget you.”

“I won’t let you forget me,” she replied. “I promise.”

“Now you’re being silly,” he insisted.

But her only answer was a kiss.
