[April 13] [Original] Ofika's Internal Processes
Title: Ofika's Internal Processes
Day/Theme: April 13, 2010 "She shows us only surfaces"
Series: original
Character/Pairing: Ofika, Loskarr, Reinyan
Rating: G
"Then are you going to ask them?" Loskarr inquired bluntly because he already knew the answer.
"Perhaps you'd prefer to sit down and have lunch first instead!" Reinyan attempted to sway his mistress' mind, rushing to speak over Loskarr. He wanted the chance to rest again before nightfall and undoubtedly the palanquin bearers felt the same. "I'm sure there must be some excellent local specialty you could try!" He felt the first drops of sweat beading upon his brow from the mix of strong sun and tense waiting that crushed in on him from both sides. Ofika was thinking about it now. She stared at his tunic and probably straight on through it. He wondered if she had been born with those orange eyes or if they had turned that color after her illness.
"Lunch first then," she declared decisively. She didn't give him a reason and he wouldn't ask for one. She rarely gave an explanation that didn't leave him with more questions than answers (he just couldn't follow her thought process; it was too erratic).
The palanquin bearers were all smiles when met with this news. While Loskarr went with the princess to find a picturesque spot for all of them to eat, Reinyan ventured off separately to kill time tracking down something novel for his charge to eat. It was basically up to him now to stretch their period of relaxation. Reinyan and Loskarr had only so much they could accomplish in the face of Ofika's whims, but they were both experts in working around their restrictions. Reinyan had first learned these skills in his days as a clerk in the court of the younger emperor. Loskarr, who had never worked in either court before receiving his post as secondary guardian and chaperon to Ofika, had just been born with the appropriate temperament for that kind of thing (Tiokihawa always said he was, "a born bureaucrat, ready to wade through life's boredoms and red tape without tripping or yawning").
"I was thinking, Loskarr," Ofika said, sitting on the grass. Loskarr's cloak lay beneath her like a picnic blanket. "I can't believe Bashir could make it so far on his own. Do you think he found someone to travel with?"
Loskarr was slightly surprised by her logic, "That's quite possible, Princess. What sort of pilgrims do you think might have taken him on?"
"Well, maybe a professional tour giver. Or a Simbari wrestler. Or a dog."
Her logic hadn't lasted long, Loskarr thought. "A, um, a dog, Princess? You think that would help him?"
"Some dogs are very smart, Loskarr," she answered briskly like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Of course, Bashir might be afraid of dogs. I don't know, but it does found like him."
