[April 1] [Tales of Rebirth] Pink and White

Title: Pink and White
Day/Theme: April 1, 2010 "Pink ribbon scars that never forget"
Series: Tales of Rebirth
Character/Pairing: Annie+/Hilda
Rating: PG-13, spoilers about Hilda's past

"Hilda? It's all right if I come in, isn't it?" Annie slipped quickly through the door into the bathroom. Inside the atmosphere was filled with clouds of warm steam. She didn't want to let in too much of the cold into the small room, so it had to be better to come in and close the door than dispel the comfortable atmosphere. The snow had stained the bottoms of her sleeves, as well as her pants. They were close to the top of the world.

"Oh, Annie. It's fine," Hilda's silky voice came to her from a distance, through the white mist created by the heat of the bath. The mirror was completely fogged up. "You can join me, if you'd like. It's bad enough I'm making the boys wait, isn't it?"

"Ha ha, they can handle it," the girl replied, glad for the offer. She scrambled out of her clothes and into the bath as quickly as she could manage. Her bare bottom hit the hot water with a slight splash. Hilda laughed lightly as Annie's skinny body flashed through her vision into the snowdrifts of bubbles.

"I was really cold," Annie admitted, when her messy head popped up close beside Hilda.

"I could tell." Hilda tossed her head slightly and her long, dark locks, still wet and heavy from washing, slapped against the side of her elegant neck. She folded her legs close to her body to make more room for Annie. The tub was big enough that the two of them could fit relatively comfortably. She laid her arm across her knees, raised out of the water like twin islands.

"Oh, Hilda, did you get hurt?" Annie asked with concern. There were thin scars, running like ribbons, around Hilda's upper arm. They didn't look recent, but that was no explanation of where or when they came from.

"These?" Hilda lifted her arm. "These are old. Nothing for you to worry about."

"But nothing for you to forget either," she guessed. Hilda's past was full of pain and anger. How could these scars be any different?

"Punishment, Annie. For cutting off my horns." Annie opened her mouth and was about to speak, but Hilda silenced her as she continued. "There's nothing you should say about it. I know now. I know that the punishment Tohma gave me is nothing compared to the punishment I gave myself by throwing away what my parents gave me."

Hilda lowered her arm and the pink scars disappeared into the mist of steam and bubbles.

"I hope that you're making up for all that pain by pampering yourself now." Annie thought that the rose-scented bath was probably a bit of a luxury. Her guess might have some substance behind it.

"What do you think?" Hilda posed the question with a satisfied smile.
