Qwilleran liked to think he had a good rapport with his cats. Especially with Koko. Koko's various noises all had distinct cadences and meanings. Each action meant something when they were working on a case. The curve of his tail, where he sat, the invisible spots he tracked down. It all meant something, telling Qwilleran whether he was on the right track or not.
Of course, sometimes the cat was just being a cat and it wasn't always easy to tell when Koko was saying something in that language of his, and when he was laughing at his human's expense.
