[February 3rd] [Axis Powers Hetalia] Forever
Title: Forever
Day/Theme: Feburary 3rd - "the witching hour"
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Character/Pairing: England and Spain
Rating: G
It's late at night (the witching hour they'd call it today, the dim minutes after midnight) and they're still up, whispering above a candle whilst the soldiers sleep around them and the moon's high above, waxing and five days from full. England smiles and peers outside the makeshift tent, then turns around and huddles closer to Spain, who in turn glances at the younger boy, a surprised smile adorning his face.
"Tis a good moon for magick, Spain. Waxing is for friendship spells. So tonight tis a good night for our spell."
"Oh? And what would that be?"
"A spell to make our friendship last forever, of course."
"Ah."
Spain watches silently as England procures another candle, smaller in stature, from his bag - "Where did you get so many?" he asks; "I make them," is the answer as he lights it carefully with the first one - and a stick of cinnamon. He smiles a little at Spain, embarrassed at this act of witchcraft - if found out, they'd both be hung - and presses a hand into Spain's.
"Candle shining in the night
With your flame enchanted,
By the powers of magic might
May my wish be granted.
Winds of friendship blow this way, from now until our final day.
This spell that I send is now at an end.
Let the magick I've laid, go forth and not fade! So mote it be!"
He lays the cinnamon stick on the candles, closing his eyes and muttering the chant a few more times; Spain's fascinated, watching, only blinking blearily when England shifts over and blows the burning cinnamon smoke towards him.
"There! Tis done. We'll be friends forever, Spain."
Spain ponders this a moment, then grabs England into his arms and laughs, hugging the slight nation to his chest.
"Sí. Forever."

Notes:
-The witching hour is generally thought to be anywhere from midnight to 3am, with the time around 3am being called "the Devil's hour", though technically the true 'hour' is midnight. During the witching hour, magick is at its strongest... as are other supernatural creatures, such as witches and demons and devils.
-The waxing moon, which is the phase before the full moon, is great for "constructive" spells like friendship, love, wealth, courage, success, and health.
-The friendship spell noted here is an actual spell, though it might have not necessarily been around that time, there was surely something like it. It deals with lots and lots of cinnamon... as well as that exact chant!
-Cinnamon was actually a very sought-after spice during the Crusades. European countries acquired a taste for it during and after this time, which is when this is set - during.
-...Also, the spell is actually to end an argument with a friend... but this works just as well for making it forever, in England's mind. That worked out marvelously, didn't it.
