[Dec. 30] [Original] How Do You Celebrate?

Title: How Do You Celebrate?
Day/Theme: Dec. 30, 2009 "I thought I'd stop and say hello"
Series: Original (Navigator)
Character/Pairing: Julian & Stuart
Rating: G

"Hey, Julian, how are you going to spend the holidays?" Stuart asked. He leaned back in the chair until the back of his head touched the pristine white countertop.

Julian didn't see what could be fun about that. "Stop testing the limits of the chairs," he thought, raising one annoyed eyebrow, "Stop testing the limits of my patience, Stuart." He put down his note-taking device and went to take the spray bottle of disinfectant out of the cabinet. He was going to have to clean that space off again now that Stuart had put his hair on it. Maybe giving the little priest a good spray himself would convince him not to do it again. "How do you expect me to spend them? I'm not going to be doing anything I don't already do on every day on Navigator. If I get any extra time off I'm not going to use it in any way I don't use any of my other days off. What holidays are you expecting me to celebrate anyway?"

"Christmas, Julian! It's in two weeks." Stuart sat up and Julian moved in to re-spray and wipe down the counter. "...Have you ever done anything for Christmas?"

"Not so far as I recall. ...I think Dr. Jet was an atheist." Funny, he had never really thought about it before. Of course, he had never thought about religion much before he became friends with Stuart. It was just one of those things that occupied other peoples' minds and hearts. He didn't know anything about it. Religion had never looked as though it had any place for him anyway. He wasn't a person. "...Did you think I would, Stuart?" Honestly, hadn't this silly priest figured him out yet. There wasn't anything he got excited enough about to celebrate. Stuart had forced him into more celebrating in the few months that they had known one another than he had ever engaged in in his whole life leading up to that point. It was just plain ridiculous in his opinion. Stuart would celebrate anything if you just let him. He didn't need any reason to start talking and laughing and smiling like he was at a carnival or on vacation. It was a weird quality. Maybe it was nice, but Julian couldn't tell.

"Well, uh..." Julian had been right on the mark there- Stuart hadn't actually thought he would (or at least he hadn't thought too hard about it). "I don't know. I thought you might do something. A lot of people, even if they're not Christian, have some sort of plans for a day like Christmas. ...Like going out to see a movie or something."

"Isn't it a little different when you're tied up serving on Navigator? I don't think anyone but you gets the full day off."

"You don't need the full day off to see a movie," Stuart grinned.

"Okay, so what's this emphasis on movies all about?" He could smell a ridiculous plan from miles away.

"Jorge and Amber set some equipment up in the galley. They're going to be screening movies all day on Christmas. I thought that maybe we could go watch one together during your time off. Amber said she'd even let you pick it- she thought it'd be such an accomplishment for you to come out and spend time around the rest of the crew that it was worth it to let you have your way." He grinned. "So how about it?"

"I...I don't know. I'd have to think about it. I don't even know what movie I'd want to watch."

"You have time, Julian. Relax and think about it. I won't hang around and pressure you. Tell me about it tomorrow or something. I'll bring you some lunch."

"...Okay." Stuart was leaving for now. That would have to do. Well, what else was he going to do on Christmas, anyway? Maybe it was worth it to think about. Maybe, maybe he would.
