[September 18] [Near Dark] A Thousand Miles (14/26)

Title: A Thousand Miles (14/26)
Day/Theme: September 18th/Arrangement in black and gold
Series: Near Dark
Characters: Homer
Rating: G

Dusk was gold, so bright it hurt Homer's eyes to watch. Didn't burn them, though; the sun was down, and what indirect light was left over wasn't dangerous. It was just bright.

Dawn would be gold, too. But everything until then, in the spaces between towns, was black. And yet it was the funniest kind of black he'd ever seen; he'd never realized there were so many shades of black in all the world. And blues, and purples, all in midnight hues - but he could see them so perfectly clearly. Funny; just a few nights ago he'd been so afraid out in the darkness, as if there was a wall in front of his eyes that could hide all sorts of creeping things.

Well, maybe it was being on the other side of that wall that made everything different; he guessed he was one of the creeping things, now.

...Neat!

He wished he had his paintbrushes. Mrs. Hooker (she'd said she was Diamondback, but he didn't like calling someone that old by name like that, and then she'd said to call her Mama, but he had a mama already, so he'd settled on Mrs. Hooker), she hadn't let him go back and get his paints from home. He wondered if Mrs. Hooker would remember to look for some, like she said she would. It'd been a few days already.

He considered the little girl lying on the ground in front of him. Too bad he didn't want to paint in red; that could have been fun.
