[Dec. 16] [Original] A Crowd of Warm Feelings
Title: A Crowd of Warm Feelings
Day/Theme: Dec. 16, 2009 "another day in black and red"
Series: Original (Navigator)
Character/Pairing: Stuart, Julian, May, Leona, Ringo
Rating: G
"In space, no one can hear you scream. And by "scream," I mean sing Christmas carols. Badly." Julian didn't hesitate to pass his own easy judgment on Stuart's untrained voice.
"Wasn't that a tagline for some old movie?" May wondered, straining with a vague recollection.
"A sci-fi movie," Leona realized.
"No duh, Li," May shot back without a hint of menace. If it really was an old movie and it mentioned space like that it had to be sci-fi. Leona could be so clueless.
"What was that?" Stuart asked, losing track of Julian's probably scathing remark in the swirling sea of chatter that surrounded them.
When asked to repeat himself, Julian found he was considerably less bold about picking on Stuart for his cheery outlook than he had been at first blush. "You like to sing...?" he asked weakly.
"Well, it makes me feel good, but I don't have many opportunities." Stuart leaned up toward his friend just as Julian was leaning down.
"Please don't tell me that the mistletoe is above us right now," Julian muttered. Now he was afraid to look up and find out.
"It's not," Stuart assured him.
"Pssh!" May held back her laughter, choking on her own amusement. "Ringo! Bring the mistletoe," she hissed, waving him over quickly. But the other pilot was slow to react and by the time Ringo had arrived with the dried-out scrap of mistletoe stuck to a yardstick (for easy teasing potential), Julian was already halfway across the room from Stuart. "Geez, you've gotta stay more on your toes, Ringo!" May chided him.
"I was trying to get some mileage of my own outta this thing!" he protested. "Amber and Brenna just showed up."
"Oh, like you really want Amber or Brenna when Leo-" May gabbed cheerfully until Leona cut her off with a sharp glance.
"Maybe he wanted them to kiss each other," Leona suggested alternatively, trying to nip any possible misunderstandings in the bud.
"Yeah, that's it. You've got to be light and loose and open at a party like this if you really want to enjoy yourself!" Ringo supported this idea.
"You're not stuck in the black and red, Ringo," Marta approached them from behind, referring to the uniform worn by the Navigator crew. "Everyday can be a party for a guy like you."
Even a party day was ultimately another day on duty. "Pilot Radcliff, please report to the bridge," Marguerite's tired and cranky voice echoed through the party.
"Another day in the black and red," May echoed her blond friend's sentiment as she reluctantly headed off to the bridge.
