[16 Dec] [DTB - Ryuseii no Geminii] And another day dawns
Title:And another day dawns
Day/Theme: 16. another day in black and red
Series: Darker than Black - Ryuseii no Geminii
Character: Hei Introspective
Rating: Spoilers for later episodes. Oblique hints.
Contractors don't dream.
She calls to me across the desolate wasteland. A bombed out landscape, littered with mangled corpses. Pale arms are stretched out towards me. Silver hair blows wild in the wind, whipping across her face.
Goodbye Hei.
Why do I see these images in my sleep? The darkness snatches her away as I reach towards her and I wake, shaken.
Contractors are ruthlessly logical and will only act in a certain manner if its to their benefit.
I stand before a heavy metal box, roughly about the same size and shape as a coffin. To finish the mission, I know I must destroy the box. Yet somehow. Even as I stand a hairsbreath away from completion, I know I cannot.
Contractors have no emotions worth speaking of. Nothing to cloud their judgement. Nothing to hinder the completion of their assigned task.
What is this tenderness I feel? The Dark Reaper feeling sympathy for the enemy?
She could destroy us all, bring all the fake stars tumbling from the heavens in a storm of silver rain. Remove her. Save yourself.
Who am I now? Robbed of power, and yet not powerless. My hands are still stained with blood. My blade is still keen. There are still willing buyers for the Death I sell.
There are days I long for the simplicity of the old days. These days, the only time I can find the same blessed numbness would be in a bottle.
Contractors live by expediency.
But I no longer seem to be one of them.
A rough male voice rouses me into wakefulness. It is evening. A blood red sun hangs low in a dirty sky. Dark eyes stare at me intently.
"Time to go. We have a job."
