[Dec. 11] [Original] Another Forecast
Title: Another Forecast
Day/Theme: Dec. 11, 2009 "and she thinks that i'm the one that makes it rain"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Bashir and Ofika
Rating: G
"Ofika, you know the world doesn't revolve around the two of us," Bashir felt he had to tell his loopy cousin one day. She seemed to have somehow gotten the crazy idea that the weather moved according to the moods of the people around her. Bashir had a feeling Uncle Tiokihawa had something to do with it. He had a lot of weird ideas and it didn't take much for his young, impressionable daughter to overhear and misinterpret them.
"Yeah, the world moves according to the designs of the One," she answered, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Clearly she was missing his point. She stared at him with the most clear and empty eyes he had ever seen. It wasn't always easy to talk to Ofika. She had walked away long ago into the recesses of her own little world and it didn't seem that there would ever be anything that could pull her fully free. And how did you talk to someone from another world?
"What I'm trying to say is, I could have a really terrible day, but the skies wouldn't all cloud over on my account. What happens to me doesn't really have any effect on the world around me much further than you and Mama," Bashir attempted to tackle the subject slowly. Ofika was watching him carefully as he spoke and she seemed perfectly lucid, but that didn't stop him from having some doubts. A smart gaze didn't mean a sharp mind. If Ofika had seemed outright stupid to the people who casually passed by her it would've been much less likely for her father to have allowed her to continue to live at court.
"So, do you understand?"
She smiled and then shrugged, turning away with an enigmatic smile gracing her pretty features. "Maybe. Yes. I don't know."
It was then he realized that perhaps this was a lost cause solely because Ofika did not care.
