[Dec. 2] [Original] Rumors of Gildensleeves
Title: Rumors of Gildensleeves
Day/Theme: Dec. 2, 2009 "if the ground should come alive"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Baruch, some merchants talking about Gildensleeves
Rating: G
"I am of the belief that soon the Ghirans may be unified. And if that is the case, who do you think there is to do it but Gildensleeves? She's the only person who could that you'd want to see manage it, at any rate."
Baruch leaned back closer to the other table in the tavern to listen in on the merchants' conversation. Traveling merchants could be some of the most knowledgeable people in the Ghirans as they moved across a greater area of the country in the course of a month than many people did in their lives. Not only were they usually relatively up-to-date on all the relevant news, they also were fairly neutral in the various power struggles gripping the region, so they were less likely to offer a highly politicized view of things than out of work mercenaries or traveling lords were. Baruch found he often invested more time than was seemly in eavesdropping on conversations or chatting up merchants for clues to the situation in other part of the far-reaching Ghirans. There were just too many things he wanted to know.
"What's so great about Gildensleeves, anyway, Pel? She might be right fierce, but she is a lady after all. 'T's not like she's receive the right to any wizardry from the deities."
"Well, be that as it may, she's a right ferocious one, or so I've heard- she goes about clad in green and gold and any man who tries anything funny with her soon enough finds himself on the receiving end of her blade. She has two sisters as well who go all about with her- one is just a perfect little doll, pretty and polite, and the other is an adherent of the Lord of the Arts and she wields his power in a mighty array of magic. Gildensleeves herself isn't said to be much to look at, but she makes up for it with her garb and her charisma. She arm wrestles bandits 'til they cry for their mothers and then she makes them follow her. She has a whole army of brigands at her command- the ground supposedly shakes at their approach- and she makes 'em keep to a tall standard of morals- they don't kidnap women or deal in slaves under penalty of death imposed by the lady herself."
Baruch nodded appreciatively to no one in particular. It was all very interesting. Very interesting indeed. Perhaps his next goal should be to try and meet with this Lady Gildensleeves.
