"Blow out the candles and make a wish! It's your birthday after all."

"Wishing is for the weak." He sniffs disgustedly, but it's just a front.

"Ya, give up acting cool already. Make a wish and cut the cake. Some of us are hungry."

"You're always hungry, Moyashi."

I store moments like these, carefully pressed between the pages of memory. Save them for emergencies. Save them for the dark days. Bookman wouldn't approve. But Bookman need never know.

Its hard when even in dreams one hears the thud of the lifeless body as it hits the ground, when one sees the life fade from the eyes of a comrade who moment's ago was just joking with you.

I want to believe that there's a better place that they go to from here. That our wishes will become wings and bear us away from this.

But, I cant.
