[Nov 2] [xxxHOLiC] Perfect Moment

Title: Perfect Moment
Day/Theme: November 2 | I won’t forget your kind smile or your eyes hidden with sorrow
Series: xxxHOLiC
Character/Pairing: Clow/Yuko
Rating: G

It’s a quiet evening. They sit under the cherry tree in Clow’s garden, in comfortable silence, watching the sky as the first stars begin to come out. The soft breeze carries the aroma of the garden, a combination of plants chosen at the wizard’s whim, with no other concern than what Flower found pretty at the time. Their bottle of sake is nearly empty, but Yuuko is not about to stand up and get one.

It’s not laziness, not this time. If that was the case, she would simply order Clow to go inside and bring another one, perhaps with a bit of healthy poking if he didn’t obey immediately. Still, she won’t do that. Not right now. This moment is too precious to break it like that.

There is nothing special about it. Nothing world-changing, nothing that holds a greater importance. It is simply a quiet instant between two people who, for a little while, can pretend to be normal. And it is perfect.

She will never tell him, but he looks dashing, right now. It’s not because he is handsome – or, at least, not because of that alone. There is an air of serenity about him; yes, that is the word that she’s looking for. An open book lies long forgotten in his lap, and he stares into the distance, smiling at nothing in particular. He always smiles. And, somehow, it’s always natural.

Knowing that he isn’t looking at her, Yuuko can’t help but smile, too. She knows all too well that their time together is short, that they won’t have many more of these moments. But she also knows that, in spite of everything, he manages to be happy and at peace.

He makes her feel that way, too, when he looks like this. And so she doesn’t say anything. Everything ends, even these rare perfect instants, but at least this time it won’t be by her doing.

Long after the moon is high in the sky, they still have not moved.
