[Oct. 29] [Original] No Such Thing as the Promised Land
Title: No Such Thing as the Promised Land
Day/Theme: Oct. 29, 2009 "A crow buries its secret"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Jin/Madonna
Rating: PG
Taking care of the matter of moving his subordinates to his new residence in Sukaki, Jin brought Madonna first. He was being careful with these things. He didn't move her into his apartments in the palace, but instead provided to have her put up in a nearby part of the capital.
She wasn't thrilled with this decision and she made a point of showing it by tossing her valise across the room so that it landed on the floor after bouncing off the side of the vanity. The clasp sprung open, flinging her peacock feather fan and boa across the wooden floor along with several tight-fitting dresses and frilly unmentionables. "Why are you hiding me away like this?!" Madonna demanded, stamping her heeled feet as she moved away from Jin's careless embrace. "Are you too high and mighty to be seen now with a common whore?!"
"No, that's not it. And you're no common whore- you're my most loyal agent, and an assassin." He shook his head, appealing quietly for her understanding in this matter.
Madonna folded her arms and stood off to the side, keeping herself just inside the doorway while Jin stood outside in the hall. "I'll hear you, Jin Rembrandt," she granted him this one thing with a cold edge to her overall demeanor.
"I know you got all worked up reading all the good things I had to say about Sukaki, but just because I'm happy here doesn't mean we'll be able to do exactly as we please from our first moment here, as much as I like to hit the ground running. The thing is, I brought you here first, before Karl and especially Toh, because you have something they don't have- tact. You'll be freer here, outside of the palace, to poke around the city and get a feel for things." He resisted the urge to smile as he saw her stance go slack. There it was- another of her good traits- patience. She had listened and now she understood. "When you're making plans for the long run, you've got to lay the groundwork carefully," he concluded.
She uncrossed her arms. "Yeah, okay. I'm sorry." She walked across the room and knelt down, picking up her scattered clothes. "I guess, for all the nice things you had to say for it, there's no such thing as a promise land," she mused.
It was a shame to have to hide away such a jewel. He had grandiose plans for Sukaki, but she was still right on the mark.
