[Oct. 22] [Suikoden III] Open Water
Title: Open Water
Day/Theme: Oct. 22, 2009 "Vanish quickly, for you are finally free"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Stephen, Sev, Kiheiji
Rating: G
"I'll be quick to follow!" Sev insisted, rushing off to spring into his own canoe, making that impatient waving gesture of his over and over as he fumbled with the line. "Come on, come on," he hurried Stephen and Kiheiji.
Kiheiji had enough experience with boats in general that he was able to take his seat and pick up an oar without much trouble, but Stephen faltered slightly in the face of the open sea. Even just stepping into the canoe was something of a leap of faith for him. He teetered nervously with one foot in the boat and the other foot still on the solid dock.
"Ah, don't give this guy a chance to freeze up," Sev told Kiheiji.
"Wh-what do you want me to do then?" the merchant asked, holding up his hands. He didn't see where Sev was going with this command.
The young Lovein let out a short sigh, with something of a "why do I always have to do everything myself," air to it, and reached around Kiheiji, yanking Stephen down into the boat by his wrist.
Stephen felt to his knees and immediately grabbed onto the sides of the boat with each hand. The uncomfortable unsteadiness continued, but his concerns were alleviated somewhat by being closer to the bottom of the boat and therefore being less likely to fall over into the undoubtedly cold ocean slinking and sliding around them.
"You're okay, right?" Sev asked him. He wanted matters taken care of expediently, but he didn't mean to give any of the visitors any scrapes or scratches while they were in his care.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," the priest breath out, gradually composing himself. A boat on the sea was ultimately the same as a boat on a lake or in the canals, wasn't it? He shouldn't get too upset. At least he wasn't being counted on to propel the tiny craft. "If I have an problems, they're no fault of yours," he absolved Sev.
"Good, excellent," Sev answered, using the end of his oar to push the canoe away from the dock and the cluster of others small boats and into the the less-obstructed depths of the water. They weren't in open sea quite yet. Sev pushed and paddled the boat carefully between rocks, some that rose about the water's surface and others that stayed a ways below the breaking waves, but would still scrape the bottom of the canoe if they weren't careful. Stephen relaxed his grip slightly, gazing into the dark water at the many rough outcroppings of rock beneath them. Sev was experienced at this. A great familiarity with the area was clearly necessary to successfully maneuver into and out of this dock.
Sev gave a careful instructions to Kiheiji now and again to help him out with his paddle, but for the most part he managed the canoe on his own until they were out a certain distance from the cliffs and the rocks began to recede beneath them to a safer distance. Without these obstacles to hinder them, they paddled along rapidly, gaining ground on Kiht and Nika as the moved the larger craft forward toward Viela.
