[OCT 14] [PERSONA 3] [THINGS UNTOUCHED BY TIME]

Title: Things Untouched By Time
Day/Theme: 14th October 2009; I've waited for you for a long time
Series: Persona 3
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Minato, Yukari; implied Yukari/Minato
Rating: G
Note: Futurefic, a "what if" scenario. Obviously spoilers for the "true ending" of P3 and FES.

Minato could only stare. When he'd woken up from his "coma" - code for "saving the world through sacrificing one's soul to become a nice solid barrier preventing humanity from calling out to Nyx" - he'd expected change. After all, he'd been out of the loop for years. Aigis had done her best to give him a condensed update on things that had happened during his obligatory absence, but there was only so much she could do.

For instance, she had been incapable of preparing him for the sight of one Takeba Yukari.

The girl - woman, he corrected himself - had not moved an inch herself since she'd strode into the hospital and caught sight of him. He was pretty sure her expression was almost a mirror image of his own. Aigis had suspiciously made herself scarce, mentioning something about release forms before disappearing into the havoc of the hospital. Somehow, he wasn't terribly concerned about leaving right now; he was too preoccupied trying to sort out the differences between this moment and so long ago.

She's gotten prettier, he thought, almost idly. Beautiful, even. The archer - ex-archer? - had grown her hair slightly longer and tied it up in a loose ponytail. Then he noticed her outfit. Tan blouse, black jeans... no pink? The revelation jarred him a little. The white leather choker she used to be so fond of was conspicuously missing as well.

Painfully, Minato wondered what else had changed about her.

"You're late," he uttered out just loud enough for her to hear him, crooked smile in place. It triggered the reaction he'd been looking for: Yukari immediately snapped out of her shellshocked state, her face scrunching up in animated fury. She began making her way towards him, almost stomping with every step. "You have some nerve," she hissed, somehow still mindful of their location despite her anger, "to go play Sleeping Beauty for nine years, but when I take fifteen minutes to rush here in afternoon traffic after receiving Aigis' call I'm the one being lectured?!"

The slap was entirely expected. He hadn't, however, actually expected her to follow up by throwing her arms around his neck and giving him an almost crushing hug - a significant feat, considering her slight figure. "Don't you ever do something like that again, or I'll kill you myself," she muttered as she buried her face in the crook of his neck. Minato almost laughed out loud then; perhaps nothing had really changed after all.

"I'll do my best," he chuckled lightly into her hair as he wrapped his arms around her in response. "In any case..." he trailed off as he tried to memorize the feeling of holding her all over again, "Tadaima, Yukari." Her response, quiet as it was, was nearly drowned out by the noise of the hospital, but he heard it nonetheless.

"Okaeri, Minato."
