[Oct. 9] [Tales of the Tempest] Snow Birds
Title: Snow Birds
Day/Theme: Oct. 9, 2009 "Wandering birds pass through the village"
Series: Tales of the Tempest
Character/Pairing: The main party (Caius, Rubia, Forest, Tilkis, Arria)
Rating: G
"So, this is the town Arria grew up in..." Tilkis mused as they crunched along the fresh snow. He kept looking around at the cozy wooden cabins with their hats and cloaks of ice and snow, trying to picture what Arria's life had been like growing up here. She was such a sweet person and it seemed like an appropriately gentle backdrop for such a life. Of course, how did you go about explaining Albert then?
"Arria! Welcome back!" passersby kept calling to her. "How is Albert?" and "You look so pretty!"
Tilkis was a little disappointed at the lack of a nice, "Who's your boyfriend?" but he could deal with it. They weren't really anything yet.
Forest appraised the stock of the local weapon shop, nothing the exceptional quality of their products despite their remote location. Caius and Rubia paused their childish scrambling through the snow long enough to beg him to re-outfit all of their party, each tugging on one of his long, thick arms until he relented, despite his grumblings about how kids didn't even know how to put such quality to good use.
The youngest members of their group had yet to tire of the novelty of the snow even after the long two day trudge through the forest and across the icy cliffs. They ran up the hill and pelted on another with hastily formed snowballs while Arria restocked their stores of cooking ingredients and gels. "Don't get too comfortable, you two," Forest cautioned them, "We've gotten all the information we wanted already. We're only spending one night here before we head out again."
"We know," Rubia replied dutifully.
"We heard you the first six times, pops," Caius snickered, aiming carefully and managing to smack their older comrade in the head with one well-packed snowball.
"That's it, you!" Forest roared in mock-anger, scooping up as much snow as he could carry in his brawny arms, "You wanna snowball fight, I'll give you a snowball fight!"
The raucous scene was so out of character for the sleepy town that nearly half the villagers showed up to watch. They talked about it the next day and the day after, long after any other sign of Arria and her traveling friends was gone.
