[Oct. 2] [Clover] Stay-In Theater
Title: Stay-In Theater
Day/Theme: Oct. 2, 2009 "Thus spring begins"
Series: Clover
Character/Pairing: Gingetsu/Ran
Rating: PG
"Hey," Gingetsu said, quietly announcing his presence as he returned to the house.
Ran was staring out the window, just like he always did, listening to the holo-radio play song after song of love or loss or both. It was dark enough that the city was beginning to light up below them, one twinkling beacon at a time. "Welcome home."
Gingetsu wiped his heavy boots on the mat and removed his coat, hanging it on a hook just inside the door. "Since you can't go out, I thought you might enjoy a little stay-in theater," he chuckled, raising a crinkling plastic bag triumphantly in his hand.
Ran turned around, his head cocked to the side. He shut the radio off with a glance. "What is it?"
"Movies." His sunglasses glinted in the electric light as he slowly made his way across the room. "I rented three because I didn't know what you'd like."
"That was awfully thoughtful of you," Ran thanked him shyly, padding over barefoot to meet him.
The commander passed him the bag and settled himself on the couch, watching his young charge examine the contents: a romance, a comedy, and a horror flick. In truth, Gingetsu had rented four films, but the fourth was tucked away in a large inner pocket of his coat to watch later- maybe with Kazuhiko over- that kind of thing always made him a bit uncomfortable.
"I don't know. Which would you like to watch?" Ran shook his head in indecision and passed the question back to Gingetsu.
"Let's try the scary one," he grinned. He certainly felt up to it. And if Ran got a little scared and had to hold his hand or hide his face against his chest, that would be fine with him.
"Okay."
"Do we still have any leftovers from last night, or did you finish them off for lunch?"
"We have some. Shall I get out a plate for you?"
"No, I'll do it myself," Gingetsu decided, remembering something else he had forgotten in his coat. "You cue up the movie." He went into the kitchen first, briefly reheating the yams and fried chicken of the night before. He cautiously balanced his fork and a chilled can of beer on the plate as he made his way back to the couch where Ran was patiently waiting. He stopped to fish a small, delicate object from his outer coat pocket.
"Here you are," he pressed it into Ran's hand.
A thin green twig with two pale plum blossoms attached. "Thank you. It's lovely."
"First day of spring," Gingetsu declared, opening the beer.
