[Sept. 24][Suikoden III] Setting Up Hospital

Title: Setting Up Hospital
Day/Theme: Sept. 24, 2009 "monster hospital"
Series: Suikoden III (as with much of this month, more of my on-going story)
Character/Pairing: Dr. Forte Ismeiro, Kiheiji, Sasarai, etc.
Rating: PG

"I know some people we've seen don't want to leave their house, but for those who will and those who have wanted to, I'd like to set up a sort of makeshift hospital. I think that would make it much easier for me to care for the sick who had no one else to look after them," Forte declared over his morning cup of red Kin-Nyang tea. It was a military drink, all buzz and bitterness, which Kiheiji thought matched the doctor's style perfectly. He didn't think he could bear more than a sip of the stuff, let alone enjoy it. Sasarai shared some jasmine tea with Kiheiji instead. Milder and sweeter, Kiheiji thought his choice too reflected his personality.

"Where do you think you'll set up?" Sev queried. He folded up a piece of toast and as he took a bite, a spoonful of the strawberry jam he had slathered onto it moments earlier gushed out the farther end. Annie stifled a laugh.

"I was hoping there would be a house- maybe an empty one- I could commandeer, err, use." He laughed awkwardly at his own word choice. Sasarai smiled at his continued eccentricities. "If not," he went on, "There's always the chapel."

"How much space do you think you'll need?" Kiheiji asked quietly.

"Not a lot," Forte sighed. "Not so much as in other situations." With Ghausu Fever, the turnover was going to be high. Few cases lasted longer than five days. In the space of a week you lived or you died.

"If it's good enough," Kiheiji cleared his throat, "You can, uh, use my place."

Several heads turned in his direction, but no one voiced their surprise or concern out loud. Feeling the pressure of these looks, even if they were reserving their judgment, Kiheiji scrambled to explain himself a little. "We- we're all dealing with this fever here and everyone is vulnerable whether or not we're using this place as a hospital. I don't have a huge amount of empty space to use, but only a few of the houses on the island are significantly bigger than this. And since all of you have been working out of my house anyway, it'll be convenient and keep everyone centered in one area." He also thought that keeping the doctor nearby would give his wife the best chance she had to recover. He was growing ever more fearful regarding her condition. She looked so sick.

"If that's what you want, I'm pleased to accept!" Forte swigged down the last of his tea. "Let's get these dishes cleaned up and I'll tell you all how I want this set up so we can get to work."
