As they neared Mt. Gagazet, a storm began to brew. Rikku bit her lip. Storms usually brought lightning. Though it wouldn't be the nightmare the Thunder Plains had been, she knew she would still end up terrified.

She began to lag behind the rest of the party. If she was going to panic, she'd rather do so in private rather than be humiliated. But when she saw the first flash in the sky, she ran for the nearest person. It was Kimahri, also lagging behind.

"Help me," she said, hating the way it sounded like she was whimpering. To her surprise, Kimahri reached out and drew her close to him. He pulled her under an outcropping of rock where they were both sheltered from the rain that soon came pounding down.

She only reached up to his chest, and she could feel his heartbeat. Hugging Kimahri wasn't a bit like petting a cat. It was like being held by a large male with powerful muscles under a luxurious coating of fur. Rikku was starting to wonder if she liked this a little bit too much when the lightning struck again and she shivered in the Ronso's arms.

"Rikku safe," Kimahri said in his rumbling voice.

"You probably hate me now," she said.

"Why?" he asked simply.

"Because I'm such a coward," she answered, still not moving out of his embrace.

"Rikku brave, just not so brave for lightning," he said. "Every person fear some one thing."

Unable to resist, Rikku stroked the fur of his back. "I'll bet you're not afraid of anything."

Kimahri was silent for quite a while, and then said softly, "Kimahri afraid to lose another fight." He reached up and touched his broken horn. Rikku let her hand follow his, stroking the jagged edge.

"Rikku not tell?" he asked in a hopeful tone.

"I won't tell. But I think you can win any fight you set your mind to." Lightning flashed, but she felt so protected that she only let out a small cry.

"Kimahri hope is true," he answered. "When reach Mt. Gagazet Kimahri have fight to win."

"I'll be rooting for you," Rikku reassured him.

He looked up into the sky. "Storm move east. Soon no more lightning."

"Can I just... stay like this for a little bit?" she asked.

He stroked her hair gently with his large hand. "Rikku stay."
