[Sept. 11][Heir Series]Hunger
Title: Hunger
Author:
in_excelsis_dea
Fandom: Heir Series
Characters: Leander, Linda
Rating: PG
Summary: Nothing else matters
Disclaimer: The characters are not mine and I do not intend to make any profit off of them.
Prompt: Sept. 11 tireless hunger in your eyes
AN: Takes place pre-series. Probably one of the shortest fics I've ever written. And it's in second person too. Comments and constructive criticism are always appreciated. Enjoy.
She tells you to rest, but you don't dare. There is too much to do. An auction is advertised in the paper and you grip the sheet so tightly that it crumbles under your power. This auction promises to sell people. Your blood is set afire, your power unfurls itself. She tries to distract you, but you cannot let it go.
You have to stop it.
When you were young, you went to a cattle auction with your father, but those were cattle, not people. You vaguely remember a slave auction when you were four – your mother gasped and hid your eyes with her skirt, quickly ushering you away. But you will never forget the squalor the slaves were held in; the heavy chains, the rags they considered clothing, the scars.
She tries to reason with you. Yes, she wants to stop it. But you're running yourself to the ground. You need to rest. You need to plan. Her touch is soft and filled with a power meant to soothe, but instead it awakens you. She presses her lips against yours, but you push away from her – harder than you intended. She goes sprawling, looking up at you from the floor with wide eyes, her mouth open.
It hurts. You hurt her. She was only trying to help, a part of you whispers, but it is quickly silenced. She was a distraction – she is a distraction, and one you can ill-afford. You'll make it up to her later, you promise yourself, striding from the room, refusing to look back.
Your body aches, and you know that deep down, she is right, but you can't stop. You have to fuel the beast within you. You must stop the auction. You must make things right again.
Before you can rest, the hunger must be quenched.
