[September 11] [Silent Hill 2] Hunger
Title: Hunger
Day/Theme: September 11/tireless hunger in your eyes
Series: Silent Hill 2
Character/Pairing: James/Maria
Rating: PG
Word Count: 205
James walked down the hospital corridor, opening doors and calling out for Maria. Finally he opened the right door and there she lay, pale and limp, a row of bottles beside her bed.
She looked just like Mary then, even if Mary never would have worn those clothes. He watched the rise and fall of her chest as she breathed. She was ill; she must be.
For a moment he wondered what she would look like if she lay still and had no breath. His hands reached out reflexively, touching the pillow under her head.
That was when she awoke, eyelids fluttering, smiling slightly to see him.
“What are you doing?” she asked him.
“I’m not doing anything,” he said, not understanding her question. “I was just… watching you sleep.”
She sat up and cradled his face in her hands. “You came back for me. You’ll protect me, won’t you James?” she asked with one of her slight smiles.
He let her touch him, needing her skin on his. And of course he wanted to protect her. But now he could see the hunger in her eyes, those eyes that right now looked nothing like Mary’s, and somewhere deep inside he knew he was doomed.
