[September 7] [Avatar: The Last Airbender] Memory of a Kiss

Title: Memory of a Kiss
Day/Theme: September 7/the light of our armistice
Series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Character/Pairing: Zuko/Jin
Rating: G
Word Count: 237

I knew "Lee" was a firebender when he lit those candles at the fountain. How else could he have done it so quickly? But I didn't feel I should tell anyone or turn him in to the Dai Li. First of all, the Dai Li already scared me more than firebenders did. And secondly, he seemed as lost as I felt in Ba Sing Se. It wouldn't be fair to endanger his life when he was just a refugee like me. And I understood, or thought I did, why he had run away that night.

But just after the war, when I realized that "Lee" was Fire Lord Zuko, I was angry. They said he had helped the Avatar, but after everything I had heard about Ozai and his family I didn't know what to believe. And here I had kissed him.

Now we've had peace for years, and I believe that whatever Zuko may have done he has changed now. Fire Lord Zuko listens to the Avatar's advice, not his father's insanity, and now there truly is no war in Ba Sing Se.

And so I'll never forget that night, even though I know I'll never see him again. But the truth is, I don't remember it because of who he turned out to be. To me, he will always be a sweet confused boy named Lee, who gave me my first kiss by a fountain.
