[September 6] [Silent Hill 4] Alternate Ending
Title: Alternate Ending
Day/Theme: September 6/one puff of breath is never enough
Series: Silent Hill 4
Character/Pairing: Henry/Eileen
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 377
Notes: Also written for the
30_kisses theme "overflow."
The pool of blood is overflowing, and Eileen is in it. Henry wastes no time dealing with his disgust at the two dead bodies of Walter, but runs to the pool and lifts out Eileen's still form. The blood is cold, Eileen's skin clammy as she lies cradled in his arms. He sits down with her and watches her chest to see if she is breathing but sees nothing. For a moment he presses his mouth to hers, trying to breathe for her, but he doesn't really know how to resuscitate anyone.
He pushes her bloodstained hair back from her face. "Eileen..." he murmurs. "It can't end like this. He's dead now, gone, and you can't be--"
Still she lies motionless, blood streaming down to reveal the paleness of her face.
"I was going to show you my pictures. I was going to invite you for coffee. I don't even like coffee but maybe you do." He realizes he sounds ridiculous. "Please, you can't die."
To his shock Eileen stirs and coughs. He feels a puff of air on his cheek as she begins to breathe. Then her breathing grows stronger and her eyelids open.
"Henry... is it over?" she asks.
"Yes!" he says with profound relief. "It's over. Let's get out of here. I'll carry you if you need me to."
He tries to block her view of the corpses. She doesn't need to see that now. He wishes he could offer her something to clean herself up with, but even his shirt is now soaked. The blood should repel him, but all he can see is that she is Eileen and she is alive.
"I think I can walk if you let me lean on you," she says, struggling to her feet. Henry puts an arm around her shoulders, supporting her as they leave Walter behind forever.
"It's really over," Eileen says. "All I can think of now is that I want a bath. Isn't that crazy, that I'm even thinking about that?"
"I was thinking about coffee," says Henry.
"I don't like coffee," Eileen replies, as if this is the most ordinary conversation in the world.
Henry only smiles, the first smile he can remember in a long time, and leads her out.
