[Sept. 6][Suikoden II] Maybe a Date
Title: Maybe a Date
Day/Theme: Sept. 6, 2009 "one puff of breath is never enough"
Series: Suikoden II
Character/Pairing: Eilie/Ming-Rei (Riou, with the name I gave him)
Rating: G
One breath isn't enough to save you if you're drowning. One prayer answered isn't enough to make you a miracle worker. So why is it that it only takes one glance to fall in love?
Eilie felt as mushy as could be expected from a teenage girl sporting her first serious crush. Ming-Rei loomed large in her thoughts. One daydream, it seemed, was never enough. It always led to another and another until Rina or Bolgan snapped her out of it with a knowing (or oblivious) remark (depending on who was doing the prompting). It was embarrassing, especially the certainty that her very personal feelings were known throughout the entire castle.
And in that way that things always seem to for young girls in love, things became more difficult. They were sitting together in the restaurant (oh my, together! Just the sound of it was something), eating lunch. It wasn't exactly a date or anything. Not officially, at least. Ming-Rei was eating ramen. Eilie had ordered the tonkatsu. It might not have been the best of choices. She struggled to eat it neatly to appear ladylike in front of her crush. Eating with so many vague worries in mind was not exactly the optimum way to enjoy oneself, but there wasn't really much she could do about it at this point. Ming-Rei, at least, was having a good time.
So good that he made the meal his treat and insisted that if she were still hungry she should have some dessert. Not wanting to look like a pig, Eilie sweetly suggested they share a shaved ice. It was cool and pink; the strawberry flavoring slowly seeping through the icy scrapings. Two spoons. They kept the bowl in the middle of the table, leaning in to reach the dessert at its center. When they leaned in simultaneously she saw how small the gasp was- if they leaned just a little further they would kiss. And he was smiling. Not the weak smile he put on to convince the others he could manage things he really shouldn't be doing. It was a strong smile, bright and glowing like the looks he gave his sister when they talked about the old days. ...Maybe it really was a date.
"You can call me "Rei" if you like," he opened up to her. It was the same nickname Jowy and Nanami used for him. As far as she knew, he had never allowed anyone else to call him "Rei."
"Okay," Eilie smiled. Date or not, it had to be something.
